Who decided that we all need to look a certain way to feel good about ourselves?
If you are wanting to change your body so that you can feel good about yourself, first ask yourself this…. Why can’t you be worthy right now? Who decided that you have to be a certain size, shape or weight before you can feel good about yourself?
I’m sick to death of the messages that we get day in day out, that say that being smaller or slimmer is when people gained their confidence. The before and afters that focus on smaller being the better body.
I’m all for losing weight for health. That’s not what I’m talking about here. What I’m talking about is the link between our weight and our self-worth. That is something that I have a big problem with.
As we come into the warmer weather, I’m seeing posts from fitness pages and trainers telling people to ‘get their summer body ready’. Ummmm….. what does that mean? That to enjoy summer, we have to look like them? To be worthy of a bikini, you need to lose weight?
What if we ask ourselves a different question? What if, instead of asking yourself how you need to look to feel good, you ask yourself what your body needs to feel good?
What if your body needs lots of good quality food, instead of a diet that makes you feel hungry and cranky? What if your body needs to move more and get some endorphins flowing to lift your mood?
Those things are available every day and don’t depend on some distant goal like reaching a certain weight or clothes size. You can feel good every day knowing that you’re giving your body what it needs to be healthy.
And whatever size you are…. Let that be OK. Because being a certain size or looking a certain way is not what makes you worthy.
